Smith Detection’s RespondeR RCI (Raman Chemical Identifier) is the ideal complement for verifying the identity of an unknown solid or liquid when used in conjunction with the HazMatID. Designed for First Responders, this system is a lightweight, easy-to-use tool that provides users with reliable answers in seconds. Both infrared (HazMatID) and Raman measure a spectrum of a sample and compare that spectrum to a library. Those spectra are generated by different physical phenomena allowing the user to arrive at the same answer using different technologies. This is ideal because some compounds and sample types (i.e. mixtures) which are difficult to identify by infrared are easy to identify by Raman and vice versa.
In order to identify the greatest number of chemicals with the greatest accuracy, both infrared and Raman can be used.
